U.S. Navy Commander Refused Award From NFL And It Isn’t Hard To Guess Why.

Retired United States Navy Commander, John Wells, was selected to receive a Peoples Health Champion Award from the NFL’s New Orleans Saints. Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.

The persistent issue with football players kneeling during the national anthem at games has turned our Nation on its head. Some argue that the kneeling has nothing to do with disrespecting the men and women who have served our country or even the flag. However, most true patriots will agree with me when I say; there’s a time and place for protest and the anthem isn’t the time. That’s a rant for another day.

It is understandable that Commander Wells doesn’t feel comfortable stepping into the stadium, under any circumstances, so long as the NFL allows it’s players to disrespect the American flag and what it represents. In what looks like a “last-ditch effort” to save face with the public by honoring this honorable man in a stadium where he’s not welcome, why is management surprised at Wells? It’s easy to see why the Commander doesn’t want the award.

Watch.

A retired U.S. Navy Officer announced Wednesday that he declined an award that would be given to him in his honor at Sunday’s New Orleans Saints game because of the recent controversy surrounding the national anthem.

Cmdr. John Wells was selected for a Peoples Health Champion Award, which would have been presented at Sunday’s game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The award is given to people who have “significant accomplishments” and have reached “senior citizen status.”

Wells, who is the executive director of Military Veterans Advocacy in Slidell, said he declined the award because of the ongoing controversy with the NFL and some players protesting during the national anthem.

“I am unable, in good conscience, to enter an NFL stadium while this discourtesy prevails,” Wells wrote to executives of Peoples Health and the Saints.

Wells called the award “tainted with dishonorable actions” by the NFL and its players. He said accepting the award would be hypocritical.

“I had hoped and prayed that the NFL would outlaw these disgraceful protests and wanted to give the commissioner and the owners a fair opportunity to do so. Their failure to act is a slap in the face to all of those who have served in uniform. Men and women have fought and died for the flag that the players are disrespecting,” he said.
