Colbert Writer Callously Tweets: “I’m just glad we ruined Brett Kavanaugh’s life”
The Kavanaugh hearing was rough, the Democrats made a mockery of the process but it’s not like the Democrats were spiteful, right? Ariel Dumas, a writer for Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, showed off the ugly underbelly of how at least some Democrats think. She posted a tweet right after the Kavanaugh vote that is really telling of how ugly a person can be.
“Whatever happens, I’m just glad we ruined Brett Kavanaugh’s life.”
Justice Kavanaugh has a family. He has a wife and children that were forced into the spotlight. This was not over accolades or something to proud of. The family had to watch the head of their household get accused by multiple women of being a creep. The kids likely were bothered at school or social settings for having a potentially molesting Dad. This whole thing put him in a poor light.
Kavanaugh’s reputation and character were put in question, and with the way it ended, people will still remember Brett Kavanaugh as a potential sexual predator. This is Slander on the part of the Democrats over hearsay. But this writer thinks it’s humorous. What part of this is funny?
After public outcry, she deleted the tweet. But what followed was not an apology. She just felt bad that people didn’t get her comment.
“The last couple of weeks have been hard for the country and for me personally. The complexity of frustration, anger and sadness can’t be accurately conveyed on twitter, and I regret my tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm in the wake of it.”
I don’t think she fully grasps sarcasm…
How was it hard for her? Did her family question whether she was a good person because she was suddenly in the wake of a smear campaign? No, she was probably just upset that her ability to kill unborn children might someday be infringed upon.
But on a more human note, something she lacked in her tweets, she could have related to Ford either as a woman or victim. But Kavanaugh was not her perpetrator. Ariel was not there and should base her opinion on facts presented not her own personal experience. If she did she would realize what we all do, that Ford did not have a case as she lacked any way to verify her claim.
But in her case, I doubt she will come to that rational conclusion.
