Former President Obama Criticises President Trump For Pulling Out Of The Iranian Nuclear Deal [Video]
Of course, Obama is upset. He brokered the failed Iran deal in his last months in office. His rush to add this deal to his own legacy cost the American taxpayers dearly in an unprecedented amount of foreign spending.
To add insult to injury, Iran never had any intentions of upholding their side of the bargain by ending their nuclear programs and refused to submit to inspections of known facilities. So why pay them until new terms can be negotiated? That’s exactly what President Trump inforced by backing out of the Obama-era deal.
According to Washington Examiner, the Iran deal, which looked bad at the time, only got worse with age. Its central flaw was that in the name of getting temporary concessions regarding Iran’s nuclear program, the U.S. and world powers gave up on everything else.
The deal allowed Iran to expand its ballistic missile program, finance terrorism, invest more in its conventional military, and more boldly meddle in Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon through its proxy Hezbollah. An obsession with preserving the deal at all costs handcuffed U.S. foreign policy, because any action in opposition to Iran could potentially be used by the terrorist regime as a pretext for pulling out of the deal.
As Written By The Hill:
President Trump announced Tuesday that he will withdraw the United States from the Iran nuclear deal, breaking with European allies, fulfilling a major campaign promise and dealing a significant blow to the international agreement negotiated by his predecessor.
“Today’s action sends a critical message: the United States no longer makes empty threats,” a triumphant Trump said during a televised address from the Diplomatic Room of the White House as Vice President Pence, national security adviser John Bolton and others looked on.
The president called the accord put in place under former President Barack Obama in 2015 “a horrible, one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made.”
“It didn’t bring calm, it didn’t bring peace, and it never will,” he added.
Trump said old sanctions will be reimposed and that the U.S. “will be instituting the highest level of economic sanction.”
