Megyn Kelly Claims Halloween Is Getting Too PC And Then Apologizes
Halloween is right around the corner and NBC host Megyn Kelly decided to have a Holiday segment. She claimed the Halloween is getting to be too PC. People are becoming oversensitive when it comes to Halloween costumes. She discussed it with a small panel.
“I just feel like it’s so absurd, how — who comes up with these rules?” Kelly asked.
Kelly went on to talk about how Kent University has put out a bunch of restrictions as far as what students can and can’t wear. They talked about how it is now no longer acceptable for students to dress up as cowboys.
“And it goes on to list the things that you’re not allowed to dress like Harvey Weinstein…” Kelly said.
Her co-hosts agreed that Weinstein was pushing the envelope. But isn’t that the point? People used to dress up as scary things like demons and devils. So wouldn’t Weinstein fit the bill?
They then went on and Kelly talked about how letters of the Alphabet were allowed and poked fun at how you could undermine the rule.
“I said to my team, Doug and I are going to together,” Kelly joked. “I’m going to go as ‘F’ and he can go as ‘U.’”
Jacob Soboroff added, “Freedom of expression … freedom of expression is a beautiful thing. So is freedom of speech. It’s part of why I like living in the United States of America. You can dress like an idiot, you can act like an idiot, and dress and be racist, somebody should say something to somebody, but you should still be able to dress like a moron.”
“But what is racist? Because truly you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. When I was a kid that was ok as long as long as you were dressing up as a character.” Kelly commented.
“If somebody feels like something is offensive to them then you should say it and that is fair game. And you should be able to take it if you are going to dress up like that,” Soboroff replied.
One of her guests tried to claim that people in polite society know what is “OK” to wear.
But Kelly made the point that some people were upset about a popular show where a white actress dressed as Diana Ross for Halloween. The actress had to use makeup to darken her skin tone and there was a public outcry. Kelly asked, “But who doesn’t love Diana Ross?” Why would it be a problem on Halloween? The one day a year to dress up as whatever.

It seems like Megyn Kelly forgets that she is no longer on Fox. Her audience isn’t used to asking why and they definitely could not handle that Kelly was OK with a white woman dressing up as Diana Ross. So they took to Twitter outraged and in doing so forced an apology out of Kelly.
“I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry,” wrote Kelly
I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep,” she wrote.
“I’ve never been a ‘pc’ kind of person — but I understand that we do need to be more sensitive in this day and age. Particularly on race and ethnicity issues which, far from being healed, have been exacerbated in our politics over the past year. This is a time for more understanding, love, sensitivity and honor, and I want to be part of that. I look forward to continuing that discussion,” concluded the host.”
So it looked like she proved that society has become too sensitive, or at least the viewers of NBC. It would be one thing if it was a random day, but Halloween is when you are supposed to be dressing as something else.
