President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted their first State Dinner Tuesday night at the White House, with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron as the guests of honor. Other guests included high-profile names in business and government.

Melania was able to show off her style and class to it’s fullest. Unlike the previous First Lady, Melania pulled the entire event together by herself but will she receive any credit for her efforts? certainly not from the mainstream media.

Just as Independent Women’s Voice pointed out, too often conservative women face harsher treatment in the press for their political and policy positions. They are criticized and belittled. If these women held another party affiliation, those criticisms would be called mean-spirited or sexist. Let’s not forget the media’s obsession with the shoes that First Lady Melania Trump wore last year while walking to Air Force One rather than the fact that she was traveling to the hurricane-ravaged Texas region to view the devastation.

It’s time out for this blatant bias. Holding women accountable for their actions is one thing, but holding some women to a different standard and beating them up for their politics should not be tolerated.

Even CNN has acknowledged the undeserved media bias against The First Lady and the graceful way she continues to push past the ugliness.

Never has there been so much lingering hostility so long after a presidential election.

Much of this hostility has been aimed at the first family, with a particularly cruel emphasis on Melania Trump.

And yet, despite the barrage of insults attacking her, including the New York Times reporter who referred to her as a hooker and the ex-boxer who called her a golddigger, the first lady continues to demonstrate grace, kindness and patience.

Her personal experience with this onslaught of ugliness gives her a unique vantage point, allowing her to speak with both empathy and authority on issues of bullying and social media cruelty. And often the best advocates for any cause are those who have experienced firsthand the social evils they seek to combat.

In recent weeks, Melania has emerged as a thoughtful and courageous advocate for a safer, kinder cyberculture for children and families. At the 2017 Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Awards, she noted that “Together, we must declare that the era of allowing brutality against women and children is over.”
