Mitt Romney Can’t Understand Why Trump Would Come Down On “Heroic” John McCain
Trump recently came down on John McCain for his involvement with the Steele Dossier. The dossier that led to the ridiculously long witch, aka Mueller probe. His original comments only went as far as to say that this action tarnishes his record. But after a harsh response from Meghan McCain, Trump turned up the heat.
“So it was indeed (just proven in court papers) “last in his class” (Annapolis) John McCain that sent the Fake Dossier to the FBI and Media hoping to have it printed BEFORE the Election. He & the Dems, working together, failed (as usual). Even the Fake News refused this garbage!”
For some reason, Romney decided to add his two cents.
“I can’t understand why the President would, once again, disparage a man as exemplary as my friend John McCain: heroic, courageous, patriotic, honorable, self-effacing, self-sacrificing, empathetic, and driven by duty to family, country, and God.”
John McCain was a POW and served his country well when it came to the military. But he was not perfect.
“Of course, McCain’s willingness to do that bare-ass minimum, rare as it was, did set him apart from his Republican colleagues at times. He bucked his party after 9/11 by opposing the use of torture; in one of the last major votes of his life, he urged the Senate to reject the confirmation of CIA director Gina Haspel, who oversaw torture.
McCain was implicated in the Keating Five scandal early in his Senate career, with the official Senate report finding that his conduct “reflected poor judgement.”
“Together, the five had accepted more than $300,000 in contributions from Keating, and their critics added a new term to the American lexicon: “The Keating Five.”
The Keating Five became synonymous for the kind of political influence that money can buy. As the S&L failure deepened, the sheer magnitude of the losses hit the press. Billions of dollars had been squandered. The five senators were linked as the gang who shilled for an S&L bandit.”
So at one point in his career, he was bought and paid. That would definitely be a reason to go after McCain. He may have been a war hero but that does not mean he is a saint.
