New Mexico Compound Suspects Back In The Hot Seat After Being Released On A Technicality
Two New Mexico Judges may have seen fit to release the adults from the alleged extremist compound case but the Federal Government found another way to get them!
A child neglect case with overwhelming evidence (practically gift-wrapped for the prosecution) should have never been dropped on a technicality. After all, police discovered filthy and inhumane conditions. Even discovered the concealed body of a small boy… So how did this slip through their fingers?
Never the less, the Feds have rearrested the adults released on child abuse charges and hit them with violating federal firearms and conspiracy laws.
According to Fox News, “the defendants, Jany Leveille, 35, a Haitian national illegally present in the United States, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, 40, Hujrah Wahhaj, 37, Subhanah Wahhaj, 35, and Lucas Morton, 40, are charged in a criminal complaint that was filed earlier today in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico,” the bureau said in a statement.
“The criminal complaint charges Jany Leveille with being an alien unlawfully in possession of firearms and ammunition in the District of New Mexico from Nov. 2017 through Aug. 2018,” the bureau said. “The criminal complaint charges the other four defendants with aiding and abetting Leveille in committing the offense, and with conspiring with Leveille to commit the offense.”
As Reported By USA Today:
Law enforcement offices finally raided the compound Aug. 3 after Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe’s office received a message, thought to have come from someone inside, saying, “We are starving and need food and water.”
“I absolutely knew that we couldn’t wait on another agency to step up and we had to go check this out as soon as possible,” Hogrefe said, according to The Associated Press.
Officers who went into the compound found that two men, three women and 11 children ranging in age from 1 to 15 were living off of potatoes and a box of rice amid a cache of guns, including an AR-15 rifle, according to officials.
After the raid, officials also presented several pieces of evidence, including alleged manuals on how to build untraceable weapons. In addition, according to testimony, some of the 11 children were handling ammunition and a least one child was armed, WXIA-TV reported.
