Students Protest Against ‘Due Process’ Speaker [Video]
American University in Washington D.C. is like most colleges where Liberals seem to have greatly influenced the students. Young Americans for Liberty (YAL), a college club, invited The Daily Caller Editor, Amber Athey, to speak at the campus. Athey decided that she would give a talk on Due Process and with all the Kavanaugh controversy came up with an attention-grabbing title. “No, Don’t believe all women.”
As you can imagine there were more than a few people that were not fans of the title of the speech. Another group, The American University Student Government Women’s Initiative, prepared for Athey by creating a “safe space” for the duration of the speech.
“In light of an event taking place on campus on Tuesday, October 23rd that is promoting the disempowerment and invalidation of survivors in sharing their stories, AUSG WI will be opening our office as a safe space.” The Women’s group proclaimed in a letter.
Due to the outcry by fellow students and claims that YAL was a hate group, YAL changed the name of the speech to a less provocative title. “Your Due Process: ##Metoo.”
Once Athey arrived on campus she was given a police escort as the school felt it was warranted due to the number of triggered students. (and likely faculty)
“On the day of my speech, following several TV interviews about the protests, I was informed of the police escort on campus and that security would be placed outside of the room in which I was speaking.
When the time came, a police officer and member of YAL met me at my car and escorted me across campus and through a back door into the event space.”

The speech went off with less disturbance than you might expect considering the amount of public outcry. A group formed outside and started chanting “We believe survivors.” The chanters at one point attempted to overtalk Athey but eventually gave up and the speech was received well otherwise.
“I’m sure that the protesters would’ve accomplished more if they had showed up to the event on time, listened to what I had to say, and then countered me during the Q&A.
Instead, they opted to put on political theater.”
Now, this may not be the worst case of triggered students but it just goes to show how close minded our university students have become. Athey was not inciting violence. She was not spreading hate, she was simply trying to warn others to think as not all accusations are credible. Athey was also trying to educate the students. She was attempting to encourage them to believe in the due process and the Justice System.
When did colleges stop being about sharing ideas?
