VA Hospital Removes Military Flags To Fly “Pride Colors” – Veteran’s Outraged [Video]
VA Hospital Decided To Temporarily Remove Militar Flags In Support Of Gay Pride Week
The VA Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indian, put themselves in the national spotlight this week by removing U.S. military flags to raise rainbow flags in honor of gay pride. What they seem to be failing to understand is that the public outrage isn’t about the flags they raised but the ones they removed.
According to Todd Starns, the VA acknowledged the controversy but defended its decision to temporarily remove the Service Flags.
“Due to limitations in the number of flag poles outside our VA, the Service Flags were lowered temporarily,” a statement read. “Rather than take one flag down temporarily, it was determined to lower all the flags so as to be equal.”
The flags line the entranceway to the hospital and are the first thing veterans see when entering. The purpose of the original flags is to honor each branch of the military. Which seems far more important than honoring just one demographic.
As Written By Disabled Veterans Own Site:
The Department of Veterans Affairs is getting flack for one of its hospitals removing all its military flags in favor of flying an LGBT pride flag in an effort to maintain the appearance of being inclusive without truly being inclusive of the disabled veterans the agency is supposed to serve.
Now, some northern Indiana residents are questioning the agency’s decision to remove its military flags to instead fly an LGBT pride flag Tuesday.
Veterans seeking care that morning were treated to the unusual removal where the solitary flag flying in their place was the rainbow flag in honor of LGBT pride at VA Northern Indiana Health Care System – Fort Wayne Campus (aka Fort Wayne VA).
“It’s certainly worth recognizing the veterans who are from that community who have served,” Jarrod Schwartz, a veteran, said. “It’s a little odd, it’s certainly different — definitely questionable — why they would remove the branch flags.”
The VA has taken some heat in the past for failing to address racism but, as of yet, haven’t flown a flag in honor of Black History Month. So what’s different here other than recent social pressure?
