Yvonne Felarca, Antifa Leader, Was Arrested Along With 3 Other Members.
A riot breaks out at “empathy tent” at Burkley University. Felarca, A 47-year-old teacher at Berkely’s Martin Luther King Middle School and Antifa leader, was arrested Wednesday evening for her part in the violent outburst during student’s peaceful protest. Reportedly the riot ensued after Burkley University student organizers canceled “Free Speech Week”. The event was to have controversial conservative pundit, Milo Yiannopoulous as a featured speaker.
While in or around the “empathy tent, apparently set up for protesters to have neutral ground to rest, an argument broke out that quickly became a small riot. Police, who had already been monitoring the event, responded immediately arresting Antifa Leader, Yvonne Felarca, and charging her with battery and resisting arrest. Along with three men for charges such as; having illegal weapons, body armor, and participating in a riot.
Prior to the violent outburst, Berkely police released this following statement:
The protest was led by the leader of a group called Patriot Prayer, Joey Gibson, who released this video before Tuesday’s events. His purpose was to call attention to “disgusting things happening at Berkeley,”.
Berkeley’s reputation as a liberal bastion has made it a flashpoint for the country’s political divisions since the election of President Trump.
Four protests have turned violent on campus and in the surrounding streets in recent months, prompting authorities to tighten security as they struggle to balance free speech rights with preventing violence.
David Marquis, who identified himself as a senior at the school, said he was tired of the protests on campus. Marquis was outside the protest area and described the scene.
“If you look at them, it’s ridiculous,” Marquis told the Los Angeles Times. “You’ve got a guy with purple hair with a f—ing lightsaber talking about Hitler. It’s hard for me to take any of this seriously.”
