The father of three of Larry Nassar’s victims listened as his daughter read their statement in court. The result was a wounded and enraged father seeking revenge for his little girls.
Larry Nassar, the physician who used his position to molest and terrorize young female gymnasts, sat through the emotional accounts from several of his victims. Mr. Margraves, father of three of Nassar’s victims was so moved by his daughter’s statement he took a chance at attacking the predator in court. Can you blame him?
Margraves politely asked for 5 minutes alone with Nassar, by law the court had to refuse his request. He then asked for just one minute alone with Nassar and was refused again before lunging at the defamed doctor. The father was quickly subdued by authorities and returned later to apologize for losing his temper. The judge overseeing the trial, Judge Janice Cunningham, said as a parent herself she cannot imagine how the distraught father feels but will not pursue charges because his reaction is completely understandable.
After two of his daughters spoke, the father, Randall Margraves, asked the judge to grant him “five minutes in a locked room with this demon.” The judge denied the request, so the man asked for one minute and then lunged at Nassar.
Court officers almost immediately subdued the man and he was not able to reach Nassar, who is accused of abusing hundreds of young girls.
“I want that son of a b—-! Give me one minute with that b——!” Margraves yelled as he was handcuffed.
Two of Margraves’ daughters gave statements to the court and said their other sister had also been molested by Nassar. Crying could be heard in the courtroom as Nassar was escorted out. Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis told families in the courtroom to “use your words” and that violence “is not helping your children.”
