Liberals have struck once again, this time against ICE. The Liberal Trendy ICE movement has infected Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. The Mayor has put forth an executive order to prevent ICE from detaining illegals in the city. The order also transfers any currently detained illegals out of the city.
She released the following statement in regards to the executive order.
“As we work to achieve our vision of an Atlanta that is welcoming and inclusive, with equal opportunity for all, it is untenable for our City to be complicit in the inhumane immigration policies that have led to the separation of hundreds of families at the United States southern border,” Bottoms said in a statement.
“I do not make this decision lightly, or without concern as to the impact on these individuals,” Bottoms’ statement read. “But until there is comprehensive immigration reform, this is the only way Atlanta can truly fulfill its legacy of compassion and tolerance. Civil offenses do not warrant criminal consequences – and no one should be jailed solely because they seek the American Dream.”

“The mayor signed her executive order on the same day the Trump administration moved to withdraw from a 1997 consent decree — nicknamed the “Flores settlement” – that limits the government’s ability to detain immigrant children. The proposed rule change would allow the government to detain immigrant children with their parents for longer than 20 days. Federal officials said they would ensure the children are “treated with dignity, respect, and special concern for their particular vulnerability as minors.”
“Today, legal loopholes significantly hinder the department’s ability to appropriately detain and promptly remove family units that have no legal basis to remain in the country,” U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in a prepared statement. “This rule addresses one of the primary pull factors for illegal immigration and allows the federal government to enforce immigration laws as passed by Congress.”
“Atlanta has been paid $78 a day for each ICE detainee it has held in the jail through a contract with the U.S. Marshals Service, collecting $7.5 million through this arrangement for this fiscal year, as of June. That is more than a fifth of the jail’s annual $33 million budget. City officials added the Atlanta jail will continue to hold detainees for other federal agencies.”
The Mayor had previously stopped all new ICE detainees from being jailed in Atlanta. But has now officially hindered ICE. The organization that has been detaining gang members, stopping drugs from crossing the border, and doing it’s best to keep us safe is once again being framed as the bad guy.
