AG Barr is not going to look the other way like his predecessors have before him. He is looking into how Intelligence Agencies have been behaving.
He thinks that American Intelligence may very well have been in the wrong when it comes to their secret investigations into Trump back in 2016.
“Attorney General William Barr dropped a bombshell at a Senate hearing Wednesday, saying he believes the Trump campaign was spied on during the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.”
“Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) asked: “You’re not suggesting that spying occurred?”
Barr answered: “I think spying did occur, yes. I think spying did occur.” He added, though, that the key question is whether law enforcement officials had a proper legal justification to open such an investigation and conduct intelligence-gathering.”
“I’m not suggesting that those rules were violated, but I think it’s important to look at that,” he said. “I’m not talking about the FBI necessarily but intelligence agencies more broadly.”
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) asked Barr to share “why you feel the need to do that.”
Barr responded, “Well, for the same reason we’re worried about foreign influence in elections. We want to make sure that — I think spying on a political campaign is a big deal. It’s a big deal.”

“I need to explore that. . . . I want to say that I am reviewing this. I haven’t set up a team yet,” Barr added. “I also want to make clear this is not launching an investigation of the FBI. Frankly, to the extent that there were any issues at the FBI, I do not view it as a problem that’s endemic to the FBI. I think there was probably a failure among a group of leaders there in the upper echelon.””
“I feel I have an obligation to make sure that government power is not abused, I mean I think that’s one of the principal roles of Attorney General,” he said.”
This could be it. Barr could be on track to draining the swamp.
