Trump recently called out Baltimore for the “disaster” it is. He called the place a “disgusting” “rat-infested mess.” He could say the same thing about California where they have a thriving homeless population and rat infestation. A Baltimore newspaper did not take this truth sitting down. They instead decided to attack Trump.
The tweets that The Baltimore Sun was offended by.
“Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA……”
“….As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”
“Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!”
And more recently he added the following, which they are likely also offended by.
“Baltimore’s numbers are the worst in the United States on Crime and the Economy. Billions of dollars have been pumped in over the years, but to no avail. The money was stolen or wasted. Ask Elijah Cummings where it went. He should investigate himself with his Oversight Committee!”
The Baltimore Sun took it upon themselves to attack Trump. They didn’t deny their rat problem as they are well aware of it. But they did call the president a racist because Trump went after Baltimore’s leadership for failing the city, and apparently, that’s not allowed.
The anti-Trump newspaper:
“he was returning to an old standby of attacking an African American lawmaker from a majority-black district on the most emotional and bigoted of arguments. It was only surprising that there wasn’t room for a few classic phrases like “you people” or “welfare queens” or “crime-ridden ghettos” or a suggestion that the congressman “go back” to where he came from.”
Is the newspaper somehow implying that rat-infested and disgusting has something to do with race? As there is nothing in those tweets that talks about race. Trump simply talks about the poor conditions of the city. The Rep SHOULD be helping to better his district, regardless of his race. The Baltimore Sun is just upset that Trump called their Rep out for being part of the problem. They should be praising the president as he is drawing attention to their issues, which may help the city in the long run. But it seems like the leadership, this newspaper also is lacking.
