Dem Presidential Candidate Dodges Gun Control Question

The Presidential Dems seems to be all about Gun Control as they harp on it after any tragedy comes up. Most seem to want a ban on “assault weapons” and some go as far as to condemn semi-automatic weapons. But it is unclear if they understand what a semi-automatic weapon is. CNN’s Jake Tapper interviewed Pete Buttigieg and he asked him what most Dems would have seen as a lay-up. But the Dem kind of sidestepped the question, instead talking about what he feels is more important.

“Beto O’Rourke supports mandatory buybacks for so-called assault weapons… You’ve stopped short of that,” Tapper said. “But, if you think so-called assault weapons don’t belong in our neighborhoods as you stated, why wouldn’t you support mandatory buybacks of assault weapons?”

“Well, I think we’ve got a lot of work to do right now on the basics,” he replied. “Universal background checks, red-flag laws, a ban on new sales of these assault weapons and high capacity magazines.

“Things that the majority, in many cases the vast majority of Americans support, that still haven’t gotten done. I think we’ve got some fundamentals we’ve got to take care of and then we’ll work to figure out how to make sure that we’re not forever the only country with more guns than people.”

Maybe Buttigieg is being more realistic when it comes to his goals on gun control. Many of the Dem Presidential candidates don’t seem to understand that legal gun owners would likely be as compliant as the New Zealanders who recently had gun ban forced upon them.

“Only around 700 weapons had been turned over. There are an estimated 1.5 million guns—with an unknown number subject to the new prohibition on semiautomatic firearms—in the New Zealand overall.”

So at least one Dem understands that there is no point in calling for a buyback.
