Donald Trump Issues Huge Presidential Pardon To Behenna
Trump rights a wrong when it comes to an Army Veteran. The President pardoned former Army 1st Lt. Michael Behenna. Behenna was charged with unpremeditated murder during his tour in Iraq.
Behenna was charged with murder for killing an Iraqi Terrorist in self-defense.
“Behenna acknowledged during his trial that instead of taking the prisoner home as he was ordered, he took the man to a railroad culvert, stripped him and then questioned him at gunpoint about a roadside bombing that had killed two of Behenna’s platoon.”
Behenna claims that the terrorist then went for his gun.
Oklahoma’s attorney general first requested a pardon for Behenna in February 2018 and renewed his request last month. Attorney General Mike Hunter said he believed Behenna’s conviction was unjustified because of erroneous jury instructions and the failure of prosecutors to turn over evidence supporting a self-defense claim.”
The White House put out the following response.
“Mr. Behenna’s case has attracted broad support from the military, Oklahoma elected officials, and the public,” the White House said, noting that more than two dozen generals and admirals as well as numerous Oklahoma officials have expressed support for Behenna, who hails from the state. The statement added that Behenna has been “a model prisoner.”
“In light of these facts, Mr. Behenna is entirely deserving of this Grant of Executive Clemency,” the statement read.
“Before he spent five years in prison for killing a suspected al-Qaeda detainee, Michael Behenna was a rising military officer from a prominent law enforcement family.
An Army Ranger in the famed 101st Airborne Division, Behenna deployed to Iraq in 2007 at the height of the U.S. troop surge, leading an infantry platoon of 18 men.
Behenna — whose mother helped prosecute Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and whose father worked as an FBI analyst and Oklahoma state investigator — has always insisted he acted in self-defense when he killed Ali Mansur.”
An American hero killed a terrorist in self-defense. That terrorist had orchestrated an attack on his convoy which resulted in the death of two soldiers, I don’t see how they went after Behenna in the first place.
