A Harvard student is now looking for new accommodations as she was discriminated against for believing in MAGA and the right to bear arms. 24-year-old Leyla Pirnie came home to find that her roommates had searched her room in search of weapons. So what was it that made them do that, was she violent or threatening? No, she simply has a MAGA hat and hails from Alabama. So these roomies took it upon themselves to violate Pirnie’s privacy and ruffle through all of her things as if she were dangerous.
“A few weeks ago, I came back to my apartment from a weekend trip and was confronted by one of my roommates who asked if I had guns in the house,” she told the Free Beacon. “After being told far too many lies to count, my roommates finally admitted that they searched my closet, under my bed, and all of my drawers in pursuit of finding my guns.
When I asked them why they were in my room to begin with, they each came up with completely contradicting stories (none of which made any sense), but one comment struck me in particular: ‘We saw that you had a MAGA hat and come on, you’re from Alabama… so we just kind of assumed that you had something,'” she said. “I asked why they didn’t just call me and ask me before intruding. One of the girls responded that fear took over her body and she felt compelled to search my room until she found proof… I cannot make this up.”
These friendly folks then took it upon themselves to give the landlord an ultimatum. It was either all of them or her.
“We discussed with Leyla that all of us are uncomfortable with having the firearms in the house and that their presence causes anxiety and deprives us of the quiet enjoyment of the premises to which we are entitled.”
The roommates went on to say that they wanted the guns to be unloaded and put in a gun safe. They said that it would make them feel better if she also removed the firing pins. They apparently wanted her to have gun shaped paperweights under lock and key, defeating the self-defense purpose of the weapons. Criminals are not going to give their victims the time to load a clip and put the firing pin back in.
The roommates were concerned that the guns would randomly discharge.
After hearing the roommates concerns the landlord stepped in. He told Pirnie that she would have to either leave or pay the full rent of $6000/month as the other tenants were going to move out.
“Since it’s clear that Leyla wants to keep her firearms, it would be best for all parties if she finds another place to live,” Dave Lewis, president of Avid Management”
The landlord did push her roomies to help her find a new place and he is going to waive a fee that he would usually charge to help. But this is ridiculous.
Pirnie feels she is being persecuted for being a gun owner. And she rightly should feel that way.
She was living with a bunch of ninnies. This whole thing was uncalled for. Does she not have a right to privacy in her own room? Pirnie claims that she bought the weapons after leaving an abusive relationship for her safety. But I guess these roommates don’t like the idea of an empowered woman. Nor the knowledge that they could defend themselves.
