California Polytechnic State University has voted to kick out fast food favorite Chick-Fil-A. The Faculty at the college felt that by allowing the restaurant to be on campus they were approving of the anti-gay sentiment that the founder has.
Chick-Fil-A founder Dan Cathy said the following about same-sex marriages.
“I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'” Cathy said. “I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.”
This is Cathy’s personal opinion he does not discriminate when it comes to his business. He hires people of all sexual orientation, gender, and race.
The Faculty at Cal Poly were however triggered despite the restaurant being part of their campus for the past 25 years.
“We don’t sell pornography in the bookstore and we don’t have a Hooters on campus — we already pre-select those kind of things based on our existing values,” academic senate Vice Chair Thomas Gutierrez said. “This is a similar thing, the difference is we’re actually profiting from this. So our money, every dollar a student is spending at Chick-Fil-A, is going to these causes that are in violation of our values.”
University spokesman Matt Lazier claimed that he was against what Chick-Fil-A stands for but did not feel that kicking the restaurant out was the right message.
“While university administration passionately disagrees with the values of some of the organizations the president of Chick-fil-A has chosen to make personal donations to, we do not believe in responding to intolerance with intolerance,” Lazier said. “Rather, we must model our values of inclusion – that means upholding the rights of others to have different perspectives and ensuring there is space in our community for differing viewpoints and ideologies, even those that may be in direct conflict with our own.”
Only a California college faculty would degrade a Christian run restaurant comparing it to porn and Hooters. Chick-Fil-A puts out a higher quality product than most fast food places and has fantastic customer service. Good Luck finding that elsewhere. This is just another example of free speech on college campuses…
