A Texas man apparently would do anything for love, but he shouldn’t have done that. Heath Bumpous found himself on the wrong side of the law when he realized he was not going to be able to buy his beloved her wedding ring.
“A Crockett man told law enforcement officers that he robbed a bank in Groveton to pay for a ring and a venue for his wedding, according to the Trinity County sheriff. The robbery suspect also told authorities that his wedding would have been tomorrow.
“He basically stated that he was getting married tomorrow so he didn’t have enough money for a wedding ring that he wanted to buy and he needed to pay for the wedding venue,” Sheriff Woody Wallace said.
Heath Edward Bumpous, a former EMS employee from Crockett, is being booked into the Trinity County jail on an aggravated robbery charge.
The sheriff says Bumpous told the teller he had a weapon and demanded money. The gun was recovered, the sheriff says.”
Authorities were aided great by Bumpous’s fiance. She recognized the photos that were circulating of the bank robber and talked her beloved into turning himself in for the crime.
“Wallace said Bumpous confessed to the robbery during questioning.
Authorities were able to recover most of the money and found a gun while processing the car, Wallace said. They also found clothes that he had thrown out of his car while making his getaway.
The Groveton Independent School District issued a “Lock Out” after the robbery and would not let anyone in or out of school buildings until authorities determined it was safe, according to a Nixle alert issued by the sheriff’s office.”
Well, he sure was determined to get her that ring. I wonder if she had him turn himself in because she was a law-abiding citizen or was it she was looking for a way out of the wedding?
