The End Of Safe Spaces? Trump Calls For Free Speech On Campuses

Colleges have become a joke with their safe spaces and lack of free speech. Liberal students and faculty are constantly turning away conservative speakers.

They feel that someone might be offended if confronted with a different perspective. But it looks like all of that is about to change. Trump has announced that he will be enforcing free speech on campuses with an executive order.

A new executive order from the White House will aim to make federal research funding for colleges and universities contingent on their support for “free speech,” President Trump said Saturday.

The announcement, during Trump’s address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, appeared to target complaints by some university critics that institutions of higher education stifle right-wing viewpoints.

“If they want our dollars, and we give it to them by the billions, they’ve got to allow people like Hayden and many great young people, and old people, to speak,” Trump said, bringing onstage a young conservative, Hayden Williams, who was physically attacked last month while tabling for a conservative organization at the University of California at Berkeley.

Trump told the audience Saturday that Williams “took a hard punch in the face for all of us.” Meanwhile, Williams said many conservative students face “discrimination, harassment or worse if they dare speak up on campus.”

The executive order, Trump said, would “require colleges to support free speech if they want federal research” money. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.”

Critics claim that there is no need for an order as they feel colleges already have free speech.

“An executive order is unnecessary as public research universities are already bound by the First Amendment, which they deeply respect and honor,” said Peter McPherson, president of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities. “It is core to their academic mission.”

The Federal government gives out $26 Billion a year. Its high time that colleges encouraged free speech as opposed to their liberal indoctrinations.
