Trump May Have Found A New Way To Stop Illegals

Trump was interviewed by Jonathan Swan from “Axios on HBO” where they talked about anchor babies. They talked about future plans and how the president wants to stop this ridiculous practice.

“On immigration, some legal scholars believe you can get rid of birthright citizenship without changing the constitution- ” Swan started.

“With an executive order,” Trump chimed in.

“Exactly. Have you thought about that?” Swan asked Trump.

“It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t,” Trump claimed.  “Number one you don’t need that. You can definitely do it with an act of Congress. But now they’re saying I can do it just with an executive order.”

“How ridiculous, we’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits,” Trump continued.

The president said, “It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. And it has to end.”

Trump then went on to say that it is in the process.

“It will happen, with an executive order,” Trump said.

White House Senior Advisor Stephen Miller also talked about how they are trying to find a way to stop birthright citizenship.

” Well, we’re looking at all legal options. But I think the key point I want to leave you with today … is that many legal scholars believe that the phrase “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” makes clear it does not apply to people here on a temporary basis or here illegally. And so the point would be then, what can we as a government do to execute the president’s obligation to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” The Constitution, being the supreme law of the land, and so what is the correct interpretation of the 14th Amendment. That’s something we have to look at. [Emphasis added]”

So if he is right that would mean the 14th amendment does not cover illegals which could make anchor babies a thing of the past. If they were able to do this it might push more people to go through the legal channels to get here.
