Trump Sets the Stage to Keep yet Another Promise to We the People

It looks like 2020 might be a rough year if you work as a government employee. Trump’s plan to get 8.6 billion for the border wall in 2020 will likely cause another govt shutdown unless the Dems wake up and smell the crisis at our border.

President Trump plans to seek $8.6 billion for additional barriers along the southern U.S. border as part of his budget proposal to be released Monday, a potential prelude to another fight over funding the president’s long-promised border wall.”

In Trump’s annual budget request to Congress, he will request $5 billion in funding for the Department of Homeland Security to continue building sections of a wall, three people briefed on the request said. He will request an additional $3.6 billion for the Defense Department’s military construction budget to erect more sections of a wall.

The people describing the request spoke on the condition of anonymity because the budget proposal had not been made public, but a top White House official acknowledged the request in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.” Reuters first reported the $8.6 billion figure.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) added that Trump caused a government shutdown in December because he defied Congress and demanded a wall. They said lawmakers were prepared to block his demand this time as well.

“The same thing will repeat itself if he tries this again,” they said in a joint statement. “We hope he learned his lesson.”

In his overall proposal, dubbed “A Budget for a Better America: Promises Kept. Taxpayers First,” Trump will put on paper what the White House has already prepared lawmakers to receive — an audacious plan for sucking 5 percent from the budgets of nonmilitary arms of the federal government, while using an accounting trick to bust beyond set spending limits for defense programs. The 5 percent would be below the fiscal 2019 budget limits for domestic agencies.

The Office of Management and Budget said Sunday that the budget would call for a total of $2.7 trillion in spending cuts, a higher proposed reduction than any other administration in history.

The budget office also said the request would seek funding for more Border Patrol agents, as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel. The blueprint will call for holding colleges and universities “accountable,” by requiring them to share some of the financial burden of student loans. And Trump will request more than $80 billion, a 10 percent increase over fiscal 2019 levels, for veterans health care, according to the OMB.”

Trump is going to have a tough time getting all of that approved with A Democrat majority in Congress. This could lead to another govt shutdown especially if the Dems feel that they are not getting anything that they want.
