Trump mocked former Sen. Al Franken while in Franken’s home state Thursday night. He called the admitted sexual predator a ‘wet rag’, noting how quickly the former Senator folded after allegations about him surfaced.
The President has been working double time managing White House affairs while drumming up supporters ahead of the November elections.
In his night speech, Trump mentioned Franken while criticizing his replacement, Democrat Tina Smith, who was appointed senator by Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton. Trump labeled Smith, who is seeking re-election next month, a far-left Democrat, according to Politico.
[Tina Smith] took a wacky guy’s place. That guy was – he was wacky. Boy, did he fold up like a wet rag, huh? Man, he was gone so fast. I don’t wanna mention Al Franken’s name, okay, so I won’t. He was gone so fast. It was like, “Oh, he did something!” “Oh, I resign. I quit, I quit.” Wow. He was gone, and he was replaced by somebody that nobody ever heard of.
Franken’s resignation speech on Dec. 7 was laced with bitterness and denial — the defiant valedictory of a man who still believes he is always right. His previous statements of remorse, he insisted, should not be construed as “admitting to doing things that in fact I haven’t done.”
He added, “Some of the allegations against me are simply not true. Others I remember very differently.” A prominent Minnesota Democrat who believed Franken should have stepped down earlier said the senator appeared, even now, to be looking toward his political future. “I got the sense he’s going to find a way to come back,” the Democrat said. “He’s going to be out raising money for Democrats again in a couple of years.”
