Wapo And The MSM Attack Ben Shapiro Over The Notre Dame Fire

The Left is always looking for a spin to take down a conservative. Just the other day Ted lieu attacked Candace Owens trying to make it seem like she was a Hilter supporter by quoting her out of context. But this case is even more of a stretch as a WaPo columnist claimed that Ben Shapiro was trying to push a Us vs Them mentality over a frankly innocent tweet.

Here’s the supposedly damning tweet.

“Absolutely heartbreaking. A magnificent monument to Western civilization collapsing.”

Someone commented that they thought it was a monument to God so Ben responded.

“It is. And that is why it is a central monument to Western civilization, which was built on the Judeo-Christian heritage.”

And somehow with these tweets, according to WaPo he is evoking a conflict between Islam and the West.

Many figures on the right took the opportunity to turn Notre Dame into a metonym for Western civilization as a whole, intimating that far more than a cathedral was in peril. Just as the fire hit social media, conspiracy theorist and brain-supplements salesman Mike Cernovich dramatically tweeted that “The West has fallen.” Shortly thereafter, fast-talking far-right pundit Ben Shapiro called Notre Dame a “monument to Western civilization” and “Judeo-Christian heritage.” Given the already-raging rumors about potential Muslim involvement, these tweets evoked the specter of a war between Islam and the West that is already part of numerous far-right narratives.”

Shapiro, of course, spoke out, defending himself.

Hey, , any interest in fixing this nonsense? I noted that Notre Dame is a monument to Western civilization because it is. That has nothing to do with blaming Muslims, and to suggest it does is simply a lie.”

This, from @chick_in_kiev, in The Washington Post, is the sheerest form of disgusting bulls***. I blamed no one for the Notre Dame fire, since it was an accident by all available evidence, and imputing malicious intent to me is simply gross. https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2019/04/16/how-far-right-spread-politically-convenient-lies-about-notre-dame-fire/?utm_term=.f2fb015a46af

To top it off Media Matters responded:

In case it gets taken down it reads “F*ck you and the burro you rode in on.”

This is what conservatives face on the regular because Dems and the MSM don’t like anything that might contradict their narratives or agendas.
