WTH?! Mueller’s Plans For Manafort Are Just INSANE!
On Friday night, Mueller’s team filed a sentencing submission in that case, saying it agrees with the guidelines that call for Manafort serving 20 to 24 years in prison and paying a fine between $50,000 and $24 million, according to Fox News.
A sentence of more than 20 years could mean the 69-year-old Manafort could spend the rest of his life in prison. A sentencing date in the Virginia case has not yet been set.
“If Manafort receives recommended sentence in 19-24 year range, it will be longer than many murder sentences in District of Columbia,” said Byron York, a Washington Examiner columnist and Fox News contributor.
The Daily Wire put this in perspective perfectly, Democrat operative Tony Podesta was allowed to retroactively file under FARA and has thus far escaped punishment. In December, the Associated Press reported Mueller was “ramping up” his investigation of the Podesta Group and Mercury Public Affairs as part of his probe into Manafort.
“The investigation reflects how Mueller, in latching onto an obscure law, has shined a light on high-dollar lobbying practices that have helped foreign governments find powerful allies and advocates in Washington. It’s a practice that has spanned both parties and enriched countless former government officials, who have leveraged their connections to influence American politics,” the AP reported.
Financial fraud can result in massive sentences. Bernie Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison with $170 billion in restitution after he operated the largest and most infamous Ponzi scheme in history.
Still, the lengthy sentence for Manafort and his “example” status seems harsh, considering many violent criminals get sentences much shorter than that (yet another indictment of our justice system).
I’m not here to argue Manaforts portion or the fishing expedition Mueller’s team has been on since President Trump took office, but that this looks to be purely a vendetta on Mueller’s part. Especially given the kind of leniency his team has shown others and the fact that Manafort pled guilty- a move that typically gets murderers lighter sentences.
