Is this really something to boast about after almost four months of stranding them there? Our State Department is now proudly claiming that as far as they know, there should be less than a dozen Americans stranded in Afghanistan. Glad they are setting the bar so low…
“Nearly four months after the Taliban reconquered Afghanistan from the Western-backed government, the State Department said Monday that it knows of fewer than a dozen US citizens who wish to leave the war-torn country.
In a statement, the department said it had “directly assisted” 479 Americans and 450 green card holders — as well as their immediate families — in leaving Afghanistan and relocating to the US since the official end of the chaotic American military evacuation on Aug. 31.
Officials said those Americans who wish to leave Afghanistan “are prepared to depart, and have the necessary travel documents.”
The State Department also said it had been able to relocate more than 2,200 Afghan allies — many of whom are holders of, or applicants for, special immigrant visas (SIVs).
The State Department statement did not say how many Afghan allies who wish to leave remain in the country.”
The less than a dozen number is only counting the Americans that were able to contact the State Department.
Sens. Ron Johnson (R., Wis.), Josh Hawley (R., Mo.), and Rick Scott (R., Fla.) sent a letter Thursday to the Department of Homeland Security outraged “It is beyond unacceptable that several months after President Biden’s disastrous and deadly withdrawal we still do not have a full account of all the Americans who are still trapped in Afghanistan or a full account of the Afghans who were evacuated to the U.S..”
It’s not like we had our military there a few months ago and prioritized evacuating Afghanis over Americans… Oh, wait we did. And we have three more years of this Administration…
