Don’t Fall for the Swampland Scheme: The Journalism Competition and Preservation Act

Outrage is mounting among conservatives and Republicans as news spreads of a shady new get-rich-quick scheme orchestrated by Washington D.C. lobbyists. The Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA) would provide a massive handout to big media companies, allowing them to join together and negotiate terms with online platforms such as Google and Facebook regarding how their content is presented online or sold.

This act is nothing more than a way for big media conglomerates to line their pockets with cash at the expense of hardworking Americans. It is an egregious example of corporate cronyism, as well as a dangerous precedent for the future of free market competition and innovation.

Despite the bill’s clear anti-competitive nature and the fact that it was already rejected by Congress earlier this year, D.C. lobbyists are attempting to sneak the legislation into a potential omnibus package. This would be an outrageous abuse of the legislative process, allowing corporate interests to trump the will of the people and enshrine special privileges in law.

Sources on Capitol Hill tell Breitbart News that media lobbyists are actively contacting members in a last-ditch effort to latch the bill onto an omnibus if it does materialize. It’s time for Americans across our nation to recognize what’s going on here and push back against these lobbyist’s attempts at negotiating themselves a sweetheart deal with our tax dollars!

Americans deserve better than this. We should all be outraged by the scheme concocted by Washington lobbyists to enrich the already wealthy at the expense of ordinary citizens. This bill will drive up prices, stifle competition, and reduce consumer choice. It is a lose-lose situation for everyone, except for the special interests who stand to benefit from it.

The time for action is now. We must stand together to oppose this dangerous legislation, and make sure our voices are heard. We must demand that Congress reject the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act, and put the interests of the people first. We must not allow the swamp creatures of Washington D.C. to get rich quick on the backs of hardworking Americans.

House Appropriations Committee member Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA) also said the JCPA should not be lumped in with an omnibus, condemning the practice of attaching controversial bills to must-pass packages like the omnibus.

“If we want to end the status quo in Washington and best represent the American people whom we were elected to serve, we must ensure that legislation is considered on their own merits, rather than lumped with unrelated spending bills,” Rep. Cline told Breitbart News.
