Immigration has been a hot-button issue in the United States for some time, and the Biden Administration has made some public statements on the issue. Vice President Kamala Harris has appeared on the issue since August of 2021, but the role she will play in the crisis is still unclear.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was unable to provide any details when asked about the Vice President’s role in the immigration crisis at a Monday briefing, simply saying that Harris has been working on a “holistic approach” to the issue. Despite the Vice President’s insistence on a more humane approach to the immigration situation, there has been minimal to no visible progress.
The amount of border encounters has hit a record high in 2021, with 2.4 million recorded as of September. The expiration of Title 42, which called for border agents to turn away migrants at the border, has added to the anxiety of many experts who fear the situation will only worsen.
The Biden Administration has promised to address the situation, but it remains to be seen what concrete action will be taken. It is clear, however, that a more compassionate approach is needed to properly address the issue.
What’s more, Harris has made it clear that she does not believe that the Biden Administration is responsible for the current crisis. Instead, she has blamed Republicans for the situation, telling NPR, “sadly, what we have seen in particular, I am sad to say, from Republicans in Congress is an unwillingness to engage in any meaningful reform that could actually fix a lot of what we are witnessing.”
Watch
It is clear that both parties have a hand in the current immigration crisis. The Biden Administration has not implemented any effective immigration reform and has gone as far as to scrap plans that were working, while the GOP has failed to stop them. It is hoped that the Republicans will use this as a learning experience and be better prepared when they assume power in the House in January.
The White House also needs to get its act together. Having no clue as to what the Vice President is doing, especially when she should be handling a crisis, is unacceptable.
It’s a freaking embarrassment…
