CNN made fun of Republican Kevin McCarthy. Tapper used a comment from North Dakota Republican Senator Kevin Cramer. “Statements like that and statements coming from House Republicans is the very reason that some Senate Republicans feel they probably should spare them from the burden of having to govern,” Cramer had said.
Then Tapper mocked McCarthy, likening him to the Wicked Witch of the West in “The Wizard of Oz” and his supporters. “The reason that Senate Republicans are coming into this deal with the devil, in their view, is because they look at Kevin McCarthy and his gang of flying monkeys,” Tapper claimed.
Referring to Cramer’s quote, Tapper said, “I mean, I just love that quote.”
He then quoted Utah GOP Senator Mitt Romney ripping McCarthy: “We’re enduring the silly season of a campaign. For most of us, that’s over after you get elected. But he’s running for speaker of the House, so the silliness is still evident.”
“That’s like cussing for Mitt Romney,” Tapper claimed.
Tapper concluded the panel by stating that all McCarthy cared about was becoming House speaker, saying, “He is only thinking in terms of getting 218 votes. That’s it. That’s the only thing he’s looking at right now.”
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul jumped in and joined the voices calling for lawmakers to reject the bloated bill. Paul spread awareness to the public that the bill was far too large to be read within the time limit given. At a whopping 4100 pages long, you can bet your ass it’s packed full of political agendas that don’t serve the American people.
The government spending package passed with a final vote of 225-201-1. The nine Republicans that voted in favor of passing the bill included Representatives:
- Fred Upton of Michigan,
- Liz Cheney of Wyoming,
- Adam Kinzinger and Rodney Davis of Illinois,
- Chris Jacobs and John Katko of New York,
- Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania,
- Jaime Herrera Butler of Washington State, and
- Steve Womack of Arkansas.
