The people at MSNBC appear to be daydreaming about the possibility of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ‘taking out‘ President Trump, in a manner similar to how Brutus assassinated Julius Caesar.
On Ali Velshi‘s show, Daily Beast writer Wajahat Ali questioned DeSantis‘ chances of beating Trump in the 2024 election, suggesting that something “epic“ would need to happen to make it possible.
Left-wing media continues to push this unfounded narrative that the 2024 election will come down to Trump vs DeSantis. The Florida governor has publically stated that he isn’t interested in running, right now.
Velshi: “Well, let’s talk about 2023. On the one hand, as you say, [Trump] is certainly not going to be in prison even if he is indicted—that trial will take a fair amount of time, whether he ever goes to prison is an open question.
But let’s talk about a year from now. End of 2023, just as we’re sitting here, end of 2022.
Politically, is he a weaker man? Is he a more damaged political brand? Is he facing challenges from a Ron DeSantis, or any other Republican who fancies their chances against him in a primary? Given he’s clearly, he’s clearly not the candidate that he was in 2016, or even 2020.”
Wajahat Ali said of Trump that he is the “weakened Golden Calf of MAGA, for sure. But, you and I have had this conversation before. And, you know, everyone was promoting Ron DeSantis. Especially Republicans, especially Republican donors. They’re trying to make Ron DeSantis into a thing! And MAGA just isn’t into him.”
He continued, “If you look at the latest polls, guess who’s the king of MAGA? Guess who they overwhelmingly still support as the leader, and the presidential candidate for the Republican party in 2024?. Donald Trump. So, I’ll believe it when I see it, right? I’ll believe it when Brutus actually takes out Julius Caesar.”
The writer went on to repeat the previous false narrative pushed by the media adding:
“But, right now, it’s still Trump, Mehdi. After everything that we just talked about, and the fact that he dined with Nick Fuentes, a white supremacist, and the fact that he said, you know what?, let’s terminate the Constitution. We still seeing MAGA, that’s another one, you just casually forget he said we should terminate the Constitution, and Republicans were like, eh, nobody’s perfect.”
Trump has repeatedly explained that he never suggested that we ‘terminate the Constitution’. The mainstream pulled that narrative from a response Trump made on TruthSocial about the Twitter Files’ exposure of how social media and the Biden administration reportedly colluded to interfere with the 2020 election. Trump suggested the results be tossed which would mean Americans would vote again, but with all of the facts.
