Parents in California are up in arms after the Chico Unified School District was accused of counseling an 11-year-old child to transition genders without notifying their parents. The district is now facing a lawsuit for allegedly violating parental rights. Many parents are outraged at what they call “the Parental Secret Policy” that deprives them of their right to be informed about their children’s lives.
According to the policy, schools are only supposed to inform parents with prior written consent, unless it’s an extraordinary situation. Aurora Regino, the mother of the now 12-year-old student at the center of the lawsuit, filed the case last month, alleging that her daughter’s school was helping her transition without her knowledge. She said, “I just want them to stop – stop keeping parents in the dark.”
At a recent Board of Education meeting, several parents spoke out against what they see as an unjust policy that takes away their right to make decisions for their children. Michelle was one of the outraged parents who said, “Schools, teachers, counselors, and staff do not have the right to keep families in the dark about what is going on with their child…These are our children, not yours.”
Another parent, Taylor, argued that gender confusion is too complex for children and counselors to handle alone, and transparency is key in these formative years. The lack of communication and transparency in the school district’s policies is unacceptable.
Even Rep. Doug LaMalfa weighed in on the matter through his congressional district representative, Teri DuBose. She said, “Know that the congressman shares your outrage and demands accountability from Chico Unified School District…As a fellow parent, the congressman understands that it is our God-given duty to protect our children.”
Regino’s lawsuit is seeking a judgment that declares the district’s policy unconstitutional and an injunction preventing its enforcement. It’s a reminder of how far the woke liberal agenda is going in pushing ideas onto young, vulnerable minds, even if it means manipulating them into making life-changing decisions without their parents’ knowledge or approval.
It’s a worrying trend in the education system that goes beyond this particular case. The idea of identity politics and critical race theory has been gaining momentum in schools, causing undue stress and confusion among young minds. These ideologies are often used as tools to divide and create animosity between different racial and ethnic groups, which is entirely unjustified.
Education should be about imparting knowledge and preparing young people for the future, not pushing a political agenda. Parents should have a say in how their children are taught and what they’re exposed to. It’s time to put an end to the divisive and manipulative practices that are undermining parental rights and creating needless tension and confusion in schools.
