Late-night talk shows have increasingly become platforms for political propaganda, with hosts like Stephen Colbert using their shows to push their anti-capitalist agenda. In a recent episode of The Late Show, Colbert and guest Bernie Sanders exploited the recent train derailment in East Palestine to further their own political goals.
Colbert admitted he didn’t know if deregulation and capitalism were to blame for the incident, but he still encouraged Sanders to promote his book, It’s OK to Be Angry About Capitalism. During the segment, Colbert referenced regulations put in place by the Obama administration, which were later rolled back under Trump, after lobbying from railroads like Norfolk Southern.
However, a fact-check by PolitiFact found that the rules in question would not have applied to the Norfolk Southern train in question. Despite this, Colbert and Sanders continued to push their anti-capitalist agenda, with Sanders claiming that big money buys elections and corrupts the political system.
The interview turned into a platform for Sanders to preach about socialism, with the occasional interruption from Colbert to throw in a dig at Republicans like Nikki Haley. It’s clear that the Democrats and their allies in the media will stop at nothing to push their radical agenda, even if it means exploiting tragedies like the East Palestine derailment.
Socialism has a long history of failure, leading to economic collapse and widespread suffering. Yet, the Democrats continue to push for policies that would move our country towards socialism, from the Green New Deal to Medicare for All.
Biden’s reckless spending and open borders agenda are only making things worse. The American people deserve better than to be subjected to the whims of socialist politicians like Sanders and their allies in the media.
We need free markets and economic growth to thrive as a nation. The policies of the GOP support economic growth and job creation, which are vital to the success of our country. It’s time to reject the failed ideology of socialism and embrace the principles that have made America great.
In conclusion, the exploitation of tragedies for political gain by the media and socialist politicians like Bernie Sanders is a dangerous game. We need to focus on policies that promote free markets and economic growth, rather than those that lead to economic collapse and widespread suffering. The American people deserve better than the failed promises of socialism.

COLBERT: Hey, everybody. Look here, it’s the author of It’s OK To Be Angry About Capitalism, Senator Bernie Sanders. Let’s talk about the tragedy in East Palestine, Ohio.
SANDERS: Yeah.
COLBERT: There were some regulations that were put into place under the Obama Administration. They may or may not have had any effect in this case but they were definitely rolled back all during the Trump Administration–
SANDERS: Trump Administration.
COLBERT: — after heavy lobbying from Norfolk Southern and other railroads. What is happening when something so egregious can happen when steps had been taken to try to end it? What role does the government have here in the face of this kind of corporate money spreading among Congress? What can we do to stop that?
SANDERS: The railroads in particular?
COLBERT: Let’s just take the rail—they are a synecdoche for a bigger problem.
SANDERS: Alright look, you know, and this is what the book is about. We live in a system –
COLBERT: The book, by the way, says It’s OK To Be Angry About Capitalism, Bernie Sanders.
SANDERS: Look, I, you know, it saddens me to say it but the American people understand it. We have a corrupt political system in which money, big money buys elections. Billionaires right now through super PACs, can spend as much money as they want, tens of millions, hundreds of millions of dollars to elect the candidates who they want to represent their interests.
