It’s no surprise that Democrats are once again using tragedy as a political tool. After the Covenant School shooting, Joe Biden falsely claimed that it was illegal to own a flamethrower in an attempt to push for gun control.
While it’s understandable why Biden’s team would want to take steps to prevent future tragedies like this one, it’s wrong to force gun control measures on law-abiding citizens.
Here’s the problem with Biden’s claim: flamethrowers are not considered to be firearms by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and they’re only illegal in Maryland and require a permit in California.
Biden is a self-proclaimed “Second Amendment guy” yet he’s calling for action against “weapons of war”. The Second Amendment grants citizens the right to bear arms and defend themselves, and it’s not guns that are the problem, it’s the people who misuse them. Criminals aren’t going to abide by gun laws so banning lawful gun owners from arming themselves only hurts the innocent.
It’s beyond ridiculous and hypocritical for Biden to be calling for gun control when he has no idea what he’s talking about. Biden’s attempt to tackle the gun violence crisis by falsely claiming it’s illegal to own a flamethrower is misguided and wrong—As usual.
This horrific tragedy shouldn’t be used as a political tool by either side. We should be supporting law-abiding gun owners and fighting for our constitutional rights, not taking them away. We must remember that the Second Amendment was created to protect citizens from tyranny, not to take away our rights.
Ultimately, Biden’s false claim speaks volumes about his administration and his lack of understanding when it comes to the Second Amendment. Instead of pushing for gun control, we should be looking at ways to prevent future tragedies by strengthening existing laws, increasing punishments for those who break them, and educating people on gun safety.
It’s time for Biden to stop spouting off false information and making ridiculous claims. Our rights are too important to be taken away for political gain. Let’s not let the tragedy at Covenant School be another example of politicians weaponizing tragedy for their own gain.
