But what is even more heartbreaking is the way some Democrats are using this tragedy as a platform to push their own political agenda. In the wake of the shooting, three Democratic lawmakers – Reps. Justin Jones, Justin Pearson, and Gloria Johnson – joined protesters in the Tennessee State Capitol, chanting and demanding stricter gun control laws.
This is a disturbing double standard. On the one hand, they are trying to use this tragedy to push their agenda, yet on the other, they are completely ignoring the fact that the shooter had already broken the law by possessing firearms illegally.
Furthermore, a radical transgender group has tried to use the Nashville shooting as an excuse to blame society for the tragedy. They claim that the shooter felt “no other effective way to be seen” than killing six people. This is a dangerous narrative that should not be taken seriously.
It is encouraging to see that Tennessee’s U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Haggerty have taken a much better approach in response to the tragedy. They have introduced the Securing Aid for Every (SAFE) School Act, which would create a $900 million grant program to provide schools with the resources they need to train and hire former law enforcement officers and veterans to increase security for students.
This is a much better approach than the cheap political grandstanding we have seen from the Democrats and from the biased liberal media. The Second Amendment is part of our Constitution and it is not going away anytime soon. We must protect it and make sure that law-abiding citizens can continue to exercise their right to bear arms without fear of violating their rights.
Watch:
It is time for us to come together and focus on real solutions to gun violence. We must focus on ways to make our communities safer, not on using tragedies to push agendas or to disarm law-abiding Americans.
