DeSantis made the suggestion jokingly, but this didn’t stop professional comedians like Colbert from condemning him for it. Colbert even went so far as to suggest that DeSantis was trying to put Florida convicts next to children.
Klepper from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show also joined in on the criticism. While he didn’t directly accuse DeSantis of being a dictator, he suggested that Disney founder Walt Disney would be “very upset” if he saw DeSantis’ suggestion.
The left and its supporters have become increasingly vocal in their criticism of DeSantis as they try to paint him as a villain and a threat to their ideologies. They have also attacked DeSantis for his criticism of Disney and its attempt to wiggle around state law.
This criticism is hypocritical, as the left has consistently supported companies like Disney, which are allowed to get away with things that others are not. If the left is going to criticize DeSantis for wanting to make sure Disney plays by the same set of rules as everyone else, then words no longer have meaning.
DeSantis has taken on the left’s woke ideologies and is determined to fight for what he believes in. This fight may scare the left, but it has firmly put DeSantis on the side of the people.
