The Biden-Harris administration has caused massive damage to the integrity of our nation’s borders, and Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent comments on the matter only further drive home the point that this White House is unwilling to do anything serious to address the issue.
In an interview with Noticias Telemundo that was published Friday, Harris said of the situation at the US-Mexico border: “Under the prior administration, they essentially dismantled the system and broke it, and we have been, since we came in office, attempting to fix it in a number of ways…”
This is completely false. The Trump administration had the lowest number of illegal crossings in recent memory, and the Biden-Harris administration’s policies have resulted in a surge in illegal immigration. According to US Customs and Border Protection, since President Joe Biden took office, over 5 million illegal aliens have been encountered at the southern border, including more than 1.2 million since October 2020.
The surge of illegal crossings has resulted in an increase in asylum claims as well. Over 1.2 million asylum claim cases were pending before the immigration courts at the end of September 2020, and that number has risen to over 1.8 million by the end of December 2022.
Andrew Arthur, a resident fellow in law and policy at the Center for Immigration Studies, said of Harris’ comments: “This is an example of what is known in psychology is deflection—blaming others for what you yourself have done. It’s the Biden administration that has effectively broken our immigration system.”
Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States, went one step further and called Harris out for “blatantly lying” to the American people about the crisis at the border. Meckler is organizing a border security rally called “How Many More?” to be held Saturday in Austin, Texas. He said that states, like Texas, need to pass laws empowering them to step up and get the situation at the border under control since the Biden-Harris administration has shown itself to be “relatively unwilling to do anything serious.”

It’s time for Biden and Harris to stop deflecting blame, and start taking responsibility for the mess they’ve created at the border. The people of this country deserve better.
