White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said on Monday that free abortions are imperative to women serving in the military, yet Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama continues to hinder the process of nominating what the left considered “much-needed personnel” amongst the Department of Defense (DOD). To ensure military personnel have “dignity and respect”, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin declared in February that the DOD would fund and provide leave for military personnel to travel out of states for abortions.
Kirby gravely asserted that he has heard from female personnel and their spouses that current abortion laws “impacting their ability to serve” and that should female personnel opt out due to these laws, the military would lose “important talent”. He continued to say that it was a “sacred obligation of military leaders” to provide service members with reproductive healthcare.
Calling Tuberville’s actions a “threat to our national security” and “totally irresponsible”, President Joe Biden is yet to speak with the Senator despite his current actions. Tuberville responded, claiming that his rejection of the process is not about abortion, but about avoiding “taxpayer-funded abortions” and making clear that his opinion would be different had this concerned military personnel and “winning a war”.
Modern-day America’s obsession with uprooting long-standing moral authority and flaky commitment to the principle of life continues to be propagated by the Biden-Harris administration. From the ridiculous proposition of free abortions to the rhetoric that female soldiers need access to reproductive health as a sacred obligation, this proposed policy fails to recognize the fetus as an individual life with unalienable rights.
Abortion and the sanctity of life have always been a controversial and polarizing discussion, however, in a modern society, it is a discussion whose most basic premise is anchored on the fundamental idea that all human life has value and is sacrificed.
John Kirby’s irresponsible comments on abortion for the military sacrificed trivialized the value of life and undermined the principle of sanctity of life.
This flawed assumption disregards the rights of the unborn and is indicative of a culture in which life is of little value. To defend the most vulnerable people in our society, free abortions are not the solution and adding a policy that allows such privileges to female soldiers will not solve the underlying issue.
Kirby also seems to forget who would be paying for those abortions—American taxpayers. Many who are spiritually opposed to supporting taking the life of an unborn child.
