As the Biden administration continues to attempt to put a positive spin on the escalating border crisis, a new report was released on Friday, attempting to demonstrate a 27 percent drop in encounters compared to last year’s statistics. Yet despite these figures, ABC’s Good Morning America was quick to applaud how “officials [were] touting Biden’s policies for that drop” on Saturday morning.
This, however, may have been an illustration of the White House’s efforts to manipulate the facts. As it turns out, the number reported by GMA of 133,000 was not the total number of border encounters in July, as the Customs and Border Patrol’s July 2023 monthly update revealed. The true, total number of Southwest Border encounters in July was a staggering 183,503, a decrease of 8% from last year. This is a huge difference from the 144,566 encounters reported in June.
Unfortunately, it appears as though ABC weren’t the only news outlet complicit in this piece of misinformation. Neither CBS nor NBC reported the Biden administration’s border statistics this morning, despite the implications these figures will likely have. It’s unacceptable for GMA and the other networks to be so unprofessional when reporting the truth.
Dan Stein, President of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, had at similar opinion, remarking “By every metric, illegal immigration increased last month – at the Southwest border, the Northern border, unaccompanied children, family units and single adults”. He added, “In the 30 months that President Biden has been in office, there have been 6.9 million CBP encounters and 1.7 million known gotaways. Outside of the people who work at the White House, there is no one who would consider 8.6 million people entering our country illegally to be a successful, sustainable, or rational policy.”
The sad truth of the matter is that the Biden administration continues to attempt to obscure the truths underlying this border crisis in order to showcase their alleged successes. Thankfully, there are still those willing to fight against the hidden agenda in order to make the public aware of the truth. Whether it be President Stein or Fox & Friends’s Griff Jenkins, who accurately reported CBP’s 183,5000 number while setting up an interview with an official from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fear mongering and propaganda have to be combatted in order for the public to get an accurate picture of the situation.
It is absolutely imperative for our news sources to be trustworthy and reliable, and failing to report the true facts has dire consequences. We, the people, cannot be expected to trust any outlet that is so easily manipulated, regardless of whether those in the White House feel their policies are successful or not. We must stay vigilant and continue to call out those who are attempting to obscure the truth.
