Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky did not hold back during a five-hour-long hearing before the House Judiciary Committee, where he took aim at Attorney General Merrick Garland for the Department of Justice’s alleged targeting of X owner Elon Musk. Massie accused the DOJ of using “mafia tactics” against Musk, who has recently become a vocal critic of the Biden administration.

According to Massie, this targeting of Musk is politically motivated and stems from his support of Biden in the 2020 election and subsequent criticism of the administration. The Kentucky congressman pointed out the blatant bias in the treatment of Musk compared to other tech CEOs, like Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, who spent $400 million in the 2020 election to sway the results in favor of Democrats. Massie claims that Zuckerberg has faced no investigations, despite his clear involvement in the election process.

To Massie and the American public, these actions by the DOJ resemble those of the mafia. “To the American public, these look like mafia tactics: ‘You pay us the money, we look the other way; you get in our way, we punish you.’ The American public sees what these tactics are,” Massie said, highlighting the apparent corruption and lack of accountability within the department.

Massie’s accusations against the DOJ and Garland draw attention to the larger issue of political bias and corruption within the current administration, particularly when it comes to the DOJ’s handling of high-profile individuals.
