The influx of illegal immigrants into the United States has become a pressing issue for border towns, and the situation appears to be only getting worse. While New York City is currently struggling with an overwhelming number of migrants, law enforcement officials in Eagle Pass, Texas have little sympathy for their plight. With thousands of migrants entering the town each week, residents are experiencing the consequences firsthand, and it’s clear that they are not happy with the situation.
Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Roberto De Leon and Constable Joe Mike Beattie, who work in Eagle Pass, have voiced their frustrations with the overwhelming number of migrants in their town. Despite their small community of only 28,000 residents, they have been forced to deal with large numbers of individuals crossing the border illegally. De Leon reminds us that even though New York City may be a larger and more resourceful city, their approach to handling migrants may not be more effective. He points out that their resources are strained and their response times have been significantly diminished due to the constant surge of migrants. Beattie also highlights the fact that public safety has become a major concern, as they have experienced an increase in crime, including a recent case where an illegal immigrant from Peru was charged with homicide.
The data speaks for itself – Border Patrol encountered roughly 181,000 migrants across the entire southern border in August alone. This has resulted in alarming conditions for border towns like Eagle Pass, which is currently 280% over capacity. De Leon shares that the constant stream of migrants has left his community feeling unsafe. While not all migrants may have bad intentions, the reality is that a small percentage do, and that is who they are dealing with on a daily basis. Beattie backs this up by explaining that his department is now seeing at least one pursuit per day of smuggling vehicles, which puts residents at risk on a daily basis.
As the situation in Eagle Pass continues to escalate, it is disheartening to hear the struggles and concerns of its residents. It’s clear that the issue of illegal immigration is not just limited to bigger cities like New York, but is affecting small towns as well. Despite a poverty rate of 26.2% among Maverick County residents, the town is still feeling the impact of this crisis. Residents like David Jimenez are left wondering why more money isn’t being allocated to prevent illegal immigration in the first place.
Ultimately, it is evident that the Democrat-run cities are not handling the migrant surge as effectively as they could be. The consequences of their actions are being felt by towns like Eagle Pass, which are left to deal with the aftermath of the overwhelming number of migrants. As the situation continues to escalate, it’s important to remember the impact it has on all communities, and to come up with a solution that truly addresses the root of the problem.

Perhaps it’s time for Dems to shift focus towards preventing illegal immigration, rather than simply accommodating it. As Beattie puts it, “Maybe we should spend a lot more money on not allowing them in the country.” It’s time for action, not just empty words and political posturing.
