Joe Biden has issued a stern warning that may spell trouble for the United States, should the current impasse in Congress between Democrats and Republicans continues. According to the New York Times, Congress has rejected efforts to move forward on the $111 billion package of aid to Ukraine and Israel, as well as border security measures, insisting that they may not give in to what they deem to be partisan demands.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Biden warned that should Congress continue to reject plans he puts forth, “we’ll have something that we don’t seek and that we don’t have today: American troops fighting Russian troops, American troops fighting Russian troops if he moves into other parts of NATO.” His words spoke to a deepening crisis between the world’s two major powers that could have devastating consequences for global stability should it continue to be unresolved.
“Congress — the Republicans in Congress — are willing to give Putin the greatest gift he could hope for and abandon our global leadership not just to Ukraine, but beyond that,” Biden said. He further noted that a lack of American support had stood between Ukraine and Kremlin ambitions for conquest. “Who in the United States are prepared to walk away from that? I tell you, I’m not prepared to walk away, and I don’t think the American people are either,” Biden said.
Biden also accused the GOP of holding Ukraine’s funding hostage, claiming that they are using “petty, partisan, angry politics” to put the American people in danger.
“I know we have our divisions at home. Let’s get past them. This is critical. Petty, partisan, angry politics can’t get in the way of our responsibilities as a leading nation in the world,” he said.
According to the Fox News, Customs and Border Protection agents interacted with 12,000 illegal immigrants along the Southern Border on Tuesday, setting a new record. It appears that there is a growing crisis concerning border security which Joe Biden supports more real solutions for, but as of right now it is unclear if the crisis be resolved in time to avert Biden’s grim scenario.
