Check It Out: Speaker Johnson Goes Off On Underhanded Biden

The Biden administration’s hypocrisy is on full display as they continue to enforce sanctions on foreign nations who have stifled political competition and removed opposition candidates from election ballots. Yet, they turn a blind eye to the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to remove former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 election ballot, despite him not being criminally convicted of any offense.

This blatant disregard has not gone unnoticed by lawmakers, with Senator Marco Rubio pointing out, “The U.S. has put sanctions on other countries for doing exactly what the Colorado Supreme Court has done today.” Even Senator Mike Lee chimed in, stating that the U.S. would threaten sanctions against countries who excluded challengers to protect the incumbent.

But, the situation in Venezuela is a prime example of the Biden administration’s double standard. Despite agreeing to hold fair elections and allow political opponents on the ballot, the Venezuelan government quickly suspended the results of their opposition leader’s primary election victory. However, the Biden administration has yet to reimpose any sanctions as a consequence of this action.

The same goes for Nicaragua, where the government was hit with sanctions for holding a “sham election” and removing most of the incumbent president’s opponents from the ballot. The Biden administration rightfully called out the government’s misuse of laws and institutions to suppress the opposition and deprive citizens of their right to vote. But, their actions speak louder than words, as they have not taken any measures to hold the government accountable.

Belarus, another country that has faced sanctions from the U.S. for holding fraudulent elections, also serves as an example of the Biden administration’s selective enforcement. The Treasury Department condemned the country for preventing multiple opposition candidates from appearing on the ballot and restricting their ability to campaign. Yet, the administration has not taken any action to hold Belarus accountable.

This hypocritical behavior is further highlighted by the recent ruling in Colorado, where Trump was removed from the state’s election ballot under the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.” The Trump campaign immediately disputed the decision, and legal experts have denounced it as unconstitutional. However, President Biden has made it clear that he believes Trump incited the insurrection on January 6th, even though he hasn’t been criminally convicted. It’s ironic that Biden is quick to pass judgment on Trump, yet stays silent when it comes to actions taken against him that go against basic democratic principles.

While Biden may claim that there’s “no question” Trump incited an insurrection, his actions and those of his administration speak louder than his words. As the White House refuses to comment on the situation, it’s clear that they are turning a blind eye to the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling, despite their history of sanctioning countries for similar actions. This reckless disregard for justice and democracy sets a dangerous precedent and further exposes the administration’s hypocrisy and lack of integrity.
