The current state of our border is a nightmare come true. Every day, we see the devastating consequences of Joe Biden’s border crisis and the tragic toll it is taking on American lives. A recent incident in Colorado serves as yet another horrific example of how Biden’s weak and ineffective immigration policies are putting our entire nation in danger.
On December 15th, authorities in Broomfield, Colorado, arrested Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas in connection to a fatal car crash that took place just a few days prior. The accident claimed the lives of Melissa Powell and her 16-year-old son, Riordan, and police suspect that Menjivar-Alas was driving under the influence.
However, the most shocking aspect of this case is the fact that Menjivar-Alas is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, with multiple convictions and previous deportations on his record. Despite this, he was able to re-enter the United States and commit this heinous crime.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Menjivar-Alas has been deported four times previously, and he also has multiple convictions for impaired driving. The fact that he was able to enter the country again shows just how porous our border has become and how little these criminal illegal immigrants fear our immigration and law enforcement systems.
But the blame for this tragic incident cannot solely be placed on Menjivar-Alas. The sanctuary policies adopted by cities like Denver and surrounding areas undoubtedly played a role in enabling this criminal to remain in our communities and commit such a heinous act. As John Fabbricatore, a retired ICE Denver Field Office Director, stated, these policies not only lack any public benefit but also contribute to an increase in crime against citizens.
Furthermore, ICE records show that Menjivar-Alas has no regard for immigration law and has previously been removed from the country. However, his deportation was not enough to prevent him from re-entering and committing this devastating crime. This is a direct result of Biden’s destructive border policies, which have created an open invitation for criminals and lawbreakers to enter our country and put innocent American lives at risk.

Countless other American families have experienced similar pain and loss due to illegal immigration and the consequences of Biden’s disastrous border policies. The safety and security of our citizens must be our utmost concern, and it is clear that these policies are failing us.
We can no longer ignore the devastating effects of illegal immigration and the urgent need for secure borders. As stated by Fabbricatore, if sanctuary policies were abolished and our border was secured, these unnecessary deaths could have been prevented. It is time for our government to take swift action, abolish sanctuary policies, and secure our border to finally put an end to this never-ending cycle of tragedy.
