The liberal media’s constant refrain about ‘democracy being in danger’ and rampant ‘voter suppression’ is becoming exhausting, especially when they can’t even show support for citizens who braved harsh weather conditions to exercise their right to vote. It was evident during the Tuesday segment of ABC’s The View, as the hosts reacted to former President Trump’s victory in the Iowa Caucus. Instead of commending Iowans for their dedication, the cast suggested they were foolish for voting for Trump.
Co-host Sara Haines, despite proclaiming to be a “proud Iowan,” expressed disappointment in Trump’s victory. She argued that the results didn’t mean much, as only a small fraction of the population participated. “Only five percent of the population of the state caucused, so when you see Iowa swept or Trump swept Iowa, no, he did not. He swept five percent of the population,” she asserted. She also pointed out that only 13 percent of registered Republicans in the state showed up to vote and that the caucuses have a track record of not accurately predicting the eventual nominee.
Haines also took a jab at Iowa’s coveted “first-in-the-nation” status for party nominations, implying that the state was overhyped. “Although I’m a proud Iowan, we shouldn’t feel we’ve ‘earned it’ because historically, we just get it,” she snidely remarked.
The acidic Joy Behar had a bone to pick with Iowans as well, accusing them of supporting a man who condones rape and white supremacy. “You voted for a guy who said, ‘Come, risk your lives for the grand wizard. Come, in the snow and the sleet because I am more important than your life.’ That’s who the five percent voted for,” she sneered.
Sunny Hostin, who is known for her racist and anti-Semitic views, brushed aside Haines’ argument that the small percentage of voters didn’t accurately represent all of Iowa. She argued that Trump won in 98 out of 99 Iowa counties, and even the one he lost, he lost by only one vote. “So, the notion that this is not representative of Iowa is misleading,” she scolded. Hostin then suggested that perhaps Iowa shouldn’t even be allowed to vote because “everyone said” they would have a racist outcome. “But I don’t think that it is so outrageous that they did because we could have predicted this without the caucus. Everyone said this would happen, and it’s because of the electorate,” she exclaimed.
However, Hostin’s comments show her own bias and blindness. She conveniently ignored the fact that majority-white Iowa voted for former President Barack Obama in both 2008 and 2012. Her criticism of Iowa’s voting patterns is a reflection of her own prejudices rather than a valid assessment of the state’s voters.
Overall, the hosts of The View displayed their elitism and contempt for Middle America by belittling the citizens of Iowa. Instead of recognizing and celebrating their dedication to democracy, they chose to insult and dismiss them. It seems that in the eyes of the liberal media, only the votes that align with their own views are worthy and valid.
