The trial for Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has finally begun, much to the dismay of the liberal media. Despite dedicating over 14 minutes to the start of Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, the broadcast networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC could only manage eight minutes and 43 seconds for Hunter’s trial. It’s clear that the biased media has a double standard when it comes to covering political trials. While they were elated to cover the Trump trial, they were crestfallen over the “sad and sordid” Hunter Biden trial, which they deemed a mere “political punching bag.”
Given their previous enthusiasm for the Trump trial, it’s no surprise that ABC’s Good Morning America downplayed Hunter’s trial, treating him like a child and Joe like a powerless father. Senior national correspondent Terry Moran even went as far as to sympathize with Hunter, using “sad and sordid” tones to describe his case. He emphasized that Hunter is a “beloved son and the only living child of President Biden,” and even highlighted his struggles with drug addiction. Only then did Moran briefly mention the actual charges against Hunter, stating that he allegedly lied on a federal form about being addicted to drugs while purchasing a Colt revolver. It’s obvious that ABC is trying to garner sympathy for Hunter rather than holding him accountable for his actions.
NBC’s Today actually dedicated a full segment and two partials to Hunter’s trial. Capitol Hill correspondent Ryan Nobles pointed out that this trial wouldn’t even be happening if Hunter had stuck to his guilty plea for tax offenses, but emphasized that he is now facing “the legal fight of his life, a fight that could end with possible jail time.” It’s clear that the media is trying to paint Hunter as a victim, highlighting his struggles with substance abuse and even signaling that his own words from his memoir, Beautiful Things, will be used against him in court. They are also quick to mention that President Biden has been publicly supportive of his son, even inviting him to state dinners and defending him on national television. However, they fail to mention the potential political implications of Hunter’s trial for the President, instead brushing it off as a “loving father” defending his son.
Finally, CBS Mornings provided the most neutral coverage of Hunter’s trial, with correspondent Scott MacFarlane providing updates from the Wilmington courthouse. MacFarlane did mention that Hunter’s struggles with addiction would be brought to light during the trial, and even highlighted that Hunter himself has been public about his battle with substance abuse in the past. However, unlike the other networks, CBS did not try to paint Hunter as a victim or garner sympathy for him.
It’s clear that the liberal media is once again showing their bias by heavily covering the Trump trial and downplaying the start of the Hunter Biden trial. While they were eager to paint Trump in a negative light, they are now trying to spin Hunter’s case as a “sad and sordid” tale and focus on his struggles with addiction rather than the serious charges he is facing. It’s time for the media to hold all politicians and their families accountable, rather than letting their own political biases dictate their coverage.
