It’s no secret that Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have a shared love for McDonald’s. In fact, both have proudly spoken about their connections to the fast food chain during their respective campaigns. But it seems that Trump may have the upper hand in this competition, as even former President Bill Clinton was mistaken for him during a campaign stop at a McDonald’s in Georgia.
Amidst rallying support for Harris’s 2024 campaign, Clinton made a surprise visit to the McDonald’s where he used days as governor of Arkansas. Dressed in a baseball jacket with “USA” boldly printed on the back, Clinton was greeted by a confused employee who seemingly mistook him for Trump. The employee excitedly asked, “You Joe? Mr. Joe?” before being corrected by someone off-camera who clarified that it was in fact Clinton standing before them.
However, despite the initial mix-up, the employee’s reaction to meeting Clinton was nothing short of adoration. Clearly starstruck, the employee exclaimed, “Oh! I gotta hug you!” before running around the counter to embrace the former president. As other employees snapped photos of the encounter, it was clear that Clinton’s presence was a welcome surprise at the McDonald’s.
But this isn’t the first time Clinton’s love for McDonald’s has been a talking point. In fact, during his 2024 Democratic National Convention speech, he joked about how happy he would be when Harris finally takes office, as she would break his record for most visits to McDonald’s by a sitting president. And it’s no surprise that Clinton would hold such a record, as he was known for making regular stops at a McDonald’s in Little Rock, Arkansas during his time as governor.
Even popular culture has poked fun at Clinton’s McDonald’s obsession. A 1992 “Saturday Night Live” sketch shows the comedian Phil Hartman playing a jovial Clinton stopping by a McDonald’s during his morning jog. When a member of his security team expresses concern about Mrs. Clinton finding out, Hartman’s portrayal of Clinton laughs it off and places fast food as the least of their worries.
However, Clinton’s love for McDonald’s was forced to take a backseat in 2004 when he underwent a quadruple-bypass surgery at the age of 58. The surgery was a wake-up call for Clinton, who has since adopted a vegan diet to maintain his health. But even with his dietary changes, it’s clear that McDonald’s will always hold a special place in Clinton’s heart.

On the other hand, both Harris and Trump have been vocal about their love for McDonald’s, with Trump even tweeting about it multiple times.

In short, it’s finally happened… Clinton has been forgotten. I know that must chap their cheeks.
