Far-left filmmaker Michael Moore, known for his controversial left-wing views, recently took to Substack to lament what he perceives as the loss of potential talents due to former President Trump’s deportation policies. Moore sensationally argued that the deportations might lead to the expulsion of someone capable of curing cancer or stopping an asteroid from hitting Earth. “Who’s really being removed by ICE tonight?” he questioned in a dramatic tone. “The child who would’ve discovered the cure for cancer in 2046? The 9th-grade nerd who would’ve stopped that Astroid [sic] that’s gonna hit us in 2032?”
Moore further illustrated his point by invoking the legacy of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, whose biological father was a Syrian immigrant. He used Jobs as a hypothetical example of the potential loss the U.S. could suffer due to the deportation of migrants, stating, “we get nothing from that Syrian Muslim who sired a Jr. Abdulfattah. A nothing-migrant with a nothing-out-of-wedlock-baby.”
Yet, Moore quickly pivoted to say that this “nothing-baby” became the iconic Steve Jobs, whose technological innovations have become indispensable in daily American life. Moore expressed his gratitude for Jobs’ contributions and mused about the hypothetical world devoid of Apple’s inventions, asking rhetorically what cultural icons like TED LASSO would be without these innovations.
Moore is not alone among Hollywood elites who are having trouble adjusting to the changes in political climate under what he refers to as ‘Trump’s second presidency.’ Unlike in 2016, when Moore accurately predicted Trump’s victory as a seismic shift against the political establishment, he incorrectly anticipated a ‘tidal wave of support’ for Kamala Harris, convinced that her candidacy would ignite fervor among disgruntled women voters. In his words, “The vast majority of the country, the normal people, have seen enough and want the clown car to disappear into the MAGA vortex somewhere between reality and Orlando.”
Despite this melodrama, it’s evident that Moore and the liberal media’s doomsday rhetoric fails to resonate with a significant portion of the American populace. This is evident by Trump’s continued influence and popularity, which reflect a different reality than what Moore predicts.
Meanwhile, many Americans have tuned out the Hollywood echo chamber that Moore represents, instead focusing on tangible policy outcomes rather than hyperbolic hypotheticals. President Trump’s focus on immigration policies is seen by many as a prioritization of law and order and economic stability, ensuring opportunities for American citizens and legal immigrants first and foremost.
