The recent meeting of the Fort Myers, Florida city council to discuss cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on illegal immigration has sparked significant controversy and emotional reactions. The proposed agreement would have granted local police officers the authority to question individuals suspected of being in the U.S. illegally and process them for immigration violations if arrested for a crime. Additionally, officers would have been able to make arrests without a warrant if they believed someone was violating immigration laws and might escape before a warrant could be obtained. However, the vote ended in a 3-3 tie, effectively failing the measure. The council members who opposed working with ICE were visibly emotional, crying and holding hands during the meeting. This display of weakness has drawn criticism from those who believe that strong leadership is essential, especially in times of national crisis.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has since threatened the three council members who opposed the measure with removal from office if they do not comply with the state’s demands to cooperate with ICE. Uthmeier, who assumed his role just a month ago, warned that Governor Ron DeSantis could remove them from office if they continue to resist allowing city police to question individuals about their immigration status and detain those subject to deportation. In a letter to the council, Uthmeier stated, “Failure to correct the Council’s actions will result in the enforcement of all applicable civil and criminal penalties, including but not limited to being held in contempt, declaratory or injunctive relief, and removal from office by the Governor.”
This situation highlights the ongoing struggle between local governments and federal immigration enforcement agencies. The liberal media has often portrayed such conflicts as a battle between compassion and enforcement, but this narrative fails to acknowledge the importance of upholding the rule of law. The current administration under President Donald Trump has consistently emphasized the need for strong border security and strict immigration enforcement to protect American citizens and maintain national sovereignty. The emotional response from the Fort Myers city council members is indicative of a broader trend among liberal politicians who prioritize sentiment over security.
President Trump has been a steadfast advocate for policies that ensure the safety and security of the American people. His administration has worked tirelessly to strengthen immigration laws and support agencies like ICE in their mission to enforce these laws. The resistance from local governments, such as the Fort Myers city council, undermines these efforts and puts the nation at risk. It is crucial for elected officials to prioritize the safety and well-being of their constituents over political agendas and emotional appeals.
Video of the Fort Myers City Council meeting where they did not approve their officers to have an agreement with ICE is even more insane because the members who voted against it started crying, holding hands:

Absolutely disgusting behavior for a city council. It only goes to show how useless these people are when they have to make hard decisions they start crying. How do these people run or manage a city with this behavior? 🤦

The liberal media’s portrayal of this issue as a humanitarian crisis rather than a matter of national security is misleading and dangerous. By framing the debate in terms of compassion, they ignore the real threats posed by illegal immigration, including crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism. The Fort Myers city council’s failure to pass the agreement with ICE is a disservice to the community and a clear example of the need for strong, decisive leadership at all levels of government.
