On the other is a Democrat ticket, led by Abigail Spanberger and her running mate Ghazala Hashmi, that is poised to drag Virginia back into the divisive politics of the past. Spanberger’s selection of State Senator Ghazala Hashmi is a deliberate and telling move that signals a full embrace of the most extreme elements of the Democratic party’s platform. Hashmi, as documented by the Washington Free Beacon, holds the very citizens she seeks to govern in utter contempt. Her assessment of the Virginia electorate is not one of respect, but of outright bigotry. Following the 2021 election, she participated in an interview where she readily agreed with the vile assertion that Virginians are racists.

During this interview, Professor Muqtedar Khan stated that Governor Glenn Youngkin’s victory meant “the majority of voters in Virginia are racist, or at least susceptible to racist dog whistles.” He further claimed the results showed “the Republicans are winning because the electorate responds to racist dog whistles.” Instead of defending her constituents, Hashmi validated this slanderous attack. She callously agreed, stating the racism of the Virginia electorate is “very disturbing.”

Hashmi elaborated, revealing her profound disdain for the people of Virginia by saying, “What’s really disturbing to [minority groups in Virginia] is this idea that racism is so latent and so much a part of the society that people could respond to these kinds of flagrant dog whistles that we heard throughout the Youngkin campaign.” This is the authentic voice of the modern Democratic party—a party that believes any citizen who rejects their radical agenda must be motivated by hatred, rather than a desire for common-sense governance.

This worldview directly informs Hashmi’s dangerous policy decisions. She has actively worked against the rights of parents, most notably by helping to kill legislation designed to ensure transparency in schools. This critical bill would have empowered parents by requiring schools to notify them if their child identified as transgender while at school. Hashmi fought to keep parents in the dark, siding with radical gender ideologues over concerned families.

A victory for the Spanberger-Hashmi ticket would be a green light for an unprecedented deluge of woke, divisive policies. Virginians can expect a relentless firehose of DEI mandates, radical transgender policies, and critical race theory injected into every facet of state government and public education. These Democrats have not changed at all since their previous defeats; they have only doubled down on their commitment to a toxic, woke approach to governance that prioritizes ideology over the well-being of citizens.

This stands in direct opposition to the America First policies championed by President Donald J.
