DeSantis: Assaulting Troopers Won’t Be Tolerated

A Jacksonville woman is under arrest after she allegedly got out of her car and struck a Florida trooper during an immigration enforcement operation. Authorities say the incident happened during a traffic stop tied to immigration enforcement, and the woman now faces felony charges.

The state attorney general posted a short video and description of the arrest on social media. The tweet read: “This is Jennifer Cruz of Jacksonville. Jennifer disagrees with immigration enforcement and decided to commit a few felonies by getting out of her car and punching a Trooper in the face. But unlike Minnesota, we don’t put up with this nonsense. Not today, Jennifer.”

Governor Ron DeSantis addressed the incident at a press briefing. He described the alleged assault and issued a clear warning. His remarks included this line: “I do know there was a woman who came out and assaulted one of our troopers. Let me just tell you guys, this is not Minneapolis. That is not going to end well for you in Florida […] the idea that you’re going to assault one of our troopers is unacceptable, and you are going to face consequences as a result.”

The governor’s statement was echoed by local officials who stressed that assaults on law enforcement are taken seriously. The Florida Highway Patrol and the attorney general’s office are handling the investigation, and prosecutors will decide on charges after reviewing bodycam footage and witness statements.

Social posts from local media also shared footage from the scene. One tweet summarized the situation: “BREAKING: @GovRonDeSantis warns Jacksonville woman Jennifer Cruz, who allegedly assaulted a trooper during immigration enforcement, that such actions won’t be tolerated in Florida. She now faces felony charges

At this stage, the case will move through the normal criminal process. The woman has been booked, and prosecutors will determine which felony counts to pursue. Officials say charges related to assaulting an officer and interfering with an enforcement action are possible.

Florida officials framed their response as enforcing public order and upholding officer safety during federal-state operations. The incident remains under investigation, and additional details will be released as prosecutors and law enforcement complete their review.
